Aiming to become a company with a great social presence that contributes to people's lives and to the natural environment

At the Unitika Group, we are reinforcing our corporate constitution and enhancing our corporate value in accordance with our management principle of "contributing to the good of society by connecting people's lives and technologies." As an advanced material manufacturer, we engage in an extensive range of businesses: manufacture of films, resins, nonwoven fabrics and other polymer or synthetic fiber materials, glass fiber and other highly functional materials, all based on our original polymer technologies developed over many years; and in environment- and biotechnology-related businesses. Through these activities, we seek to become a company with a strong social presence that contributes to people's lives and to the natural environment. This is in fact our management vision.

Improving and reinforcing our business capabilities through the mid-term management plan "Reform 2011"
The business environment surrounding us is constantly changing. To better respond to dynamic global socioeconomic changes, including the growing irrelevance of national borders in terms of market economy, accelerated technological innovation, fluctuation in fossil fuel prices, increasing presence of emerging economies and the worldwide recession since autumn 2008, the Unitika Group has been working on fundamental reforms of the Group's business structure, as well as on profitability enhancement.
In fiscal 2009 we adopted the new mid-term management plan "Reform 2011" to overcome the adverse impact of the ongoing recession, stabilize our foundation of profitability and improve and reinforce our business capabilities, centering on highly functional materials.
According to"Reform 2011," we are carefully selecting business domains on which to focus our efforts, so as to restructure domains whose profitability has been declining, such as apparel fabric and environmental plants, and largely cut down on fixed costs, thereby ensuring profits even in the present sluggish economic environment. To reinforce the domain of highly functional materials, we are promoting nylon films, for which we have the largest world market share, our original polyalylate resin, glass and other inorganic materials, highly resistant synthetic thread, industrial textiles and so on-- that is, domains buttressed with our original leading-edge core technologies.
At the same time, we are also vigorously pursuing activities that contribute directly to the protection of the natural environment and people's livelihood, in accord with one of our basic management policies. Specifically, we are promoting bio-plastics (including the biodegradable TERRAMAC), recycling businesses and environment-preserving activities at the Group's offices. Through these activities range from supporting our customers' lives to alleviating global environmental destruction, we hope to establish ourselves as a business entity that can bring true value to society.

120th anniversary of corporate founding: toward a brighter future
Thanks to your generous support, in June 2009 the Unitika Group celebrated the 120th anniversary of its corporate founding. At this milestone, we renewed our basic commitment to "being with" each one of our customers through the unique and valuable products we provide to society and by actively fulfilling our corporate social responsibilities in environmental protection and other aspects, so as to further improve our corporate value in the future. In this process, your kind understanding of the Group's business situation, and your continued support and encouragement, will be greatly appreciated.
