Pinhole resistance
What is a “Pinhole” ?
“Pinhole” refers to a tiny hole caused by a variety of external factors. When a pinhole occurs in a package, it causes leaks, and the contents to spoil or decay. The flow of gas into the package may be the most serious threat to the sterility of the contents.
Pinholes are mainly caused by (1)Friction (2)Folding (3)Piercing.
Types of pinholes
- (1) Friction
- This type of pinhole results from rubbing with any other packages during shipping, handling, and transportation.
- (2) Folding
- This type of pinhole results from folds in the packaging material, as these folds can become weak and cause leaks especially in the corner of the bag.
- (3) Piercing
- This type of pinhole results from the packaging being pierced with needle-like or otherwise very sharp object.
