Our performance material business handles nonwoven fabrics, activated carbon fibers, high performance porous plates, glass fabrics, glass beads, as well as a wide range of industrial fibers.
While leveraging the features and functionalities of our full range of materials to flexibly respond to specific needs, we are also expanding into new fields of application with our high-performance and high value-added products that make full use of our composite material technologies.

Activated Carbon Fibers

UNITIKA's activated carbon fiber, which we have developed by leveraging our melt-spinning technology, provides an extremely high adsorption speed compared with powdered or granular activated carbon. It adsorbs impurities from liquids and odors from the air. By taking advantage of the features of activated carbon fiber, we help people live comfortably.

Porous Plate

UNITIKA's porous plate is a water-absorbing material made of polyester fiber. We process polyester, which is hydrophobic by nature, by using our unique technique, to give the material high levels of water absorbency, sheet hardness, and machinability in a balanced manner.

Glass fabrics

Unitika provides a range of products using continuous glass fiber and composite materials. High value added finished glass fabrics for printed circuit boards meet the needs of IT-related fields in terms of quality and strategic product development. In the industrial glass fabrics field, Unitika offers a wide variety of product lines, including FRP, bag filters for waste incinerators, construction sheets, and waterproof floor sheeting, etc. Glass fabrics are also used in a range of interior and lifestyle products.

    Illumination cover

    A resin-coated glass fabrics used to create a soft lighting effect. Its flame retardant property also helps to prevent fires.
  • Glass fiber filtering cloth

    Glass fiber filtering cloth

    Due to its ability to endure long-term exposure to high temperatures, glass fiber filtering cloth is used in waste incinerators and coal-fired boilers. It is also used as bag filters found in waste incinerators.
  • U-CLEARSHEET

    U-CLEARSHEET

    U-CLEARSHEET is a glass fabrics reinforced resin sheet with superior transparency and has been certified as a fire retardant material for use in the buildings by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in Japan. Due to its light weight and unbreakable property, its applications are expanding in the construction field as a replacement for plate glass, including smoke barriers and partition walls, etc.

Glass beads

We have been produced spherical glass beads with diameter ranging from several microns to several millimeters. Utilizing excellent retroreflectiveness, they are applied as the materials for road center line, pedestrian crossing, road signs, sportswear, shoes and so on.
With homogeneous and spherical shape, our glass beads are also used as a soft polishing or blasting on electrical appliances and hypodermic needles and various industrial products as well. And are applied as crushing, dispersion media to such as paint, paper manufacturing process.
Furthermore, our glass beads with extremely sharp particle size distribution are used for spacer and standard particle.

Nonwoven

Our nonwoven products include polyester-based spunbond products and cotton-based spunlace products. Unitika leads of the industry, these both products get a high evaluation in Asia. Spunbond products are used in agricultural and civil engineering materials, as a base fabric for roofing and carpet and in automotive parts while spunlace products are found in skin care products, cloth wipes and in the medical field. While we continue to improve product quality and open new markets in these fields, it is also important that we develop new applications for nonwovens, a product that has continued to grow as a replacement for more conventional materials. In the years to come, Unitika is committed to new product development with our sights firmly on bringing new products to market based on further collaboration.

    Cornetta is a spun yarn consisting of regular polyester at its core and binder polyester in the sheath. Not only does the thermal bonding process give it hardness, elasticity and form retaining properties, etc. that couldn’t be achieved without resin treatments in the past, it also suppresses formalin, created when processing resins. Cornetta is 100% polyester meaning that it can also be recycled.

Biomass-based material(Terramac)

“Terramac” is a biomass material made from the starch found in corn etc. It is currently attracting attention as an eco-material with no load on the global environment to replace oil-based plastics. Unitika is developing “Terramac” in a range of forms, including textiles, spunbond fabric and resins etc.
