Sustainability Policy

Sustainable Development

In 1987, the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development endorsed the concept of “sustainable development.” “Sustainable development” is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Based on this concept, the United Nations in 2015 formulated the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in order to realize a sustainable society.

The world faces a variety of social issues including the problem of global population, resource depletion, climate change, environmental problems, water problems, food crisis, the problem of poverty, and human rights issues. Through its business, Unitika aims to resolve these issues and realize a sustainable society.

Sustainability Policy

Sustainability Policy

The Unitika Group will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by connecting people’s lives and technology through its business activities.

In 2022, the Unitika Group formulated the Sustainability Policy at the Sustainability Committee, and these were approved by the Board of Directors in April of the same year. The Policy specifies our philosophy and Group mission for realizing our long-term vision from a sustainability perspective.

Specific Initiatives

The Unitika Group has set eight priority issues (materiality) as management issues that Unitika should tackle as a priority by 2030. We have set the following three priority issues related to business, as priority issues associated with our products’ values.

Business-related priority issues

  • Realizing safe and secure living
  • Realizing convenient and comfortable living
  • Realizing living in coexistence with the environment

These issues are precisely the Unitika Group's mission that is set out in our long-term vision, which we are striving to realize in society through our businesses.

  • We are striving to “realize safe and secure living” by providing products to protect people from disasters, accidents, crimes, and damage to health, etc.
  • We are striving to “realize convenient and comfortable living” by providing products that are compatible with diversifying lifestyle habits and digitalization.
  • We are striving to “realize living in coexistence with the environment” by providing products that contribute to CO2 reductions, conserving resources, and preventing environmental pollution.

We believe sustainable activities are also necessary in the corporate activities that support our businesses, and so we have set the following five priority issues related to our corporate activities.

Corporate activities-related priority issues

  • Promoting corporate activities in coexistence with the environment
  • Human rights
  • Employee engagement
  • Diversity
  • Supply chain management
  • We will work on “promoting corporate activities in coexistence with the environment” through our eco-conscious measures, such as reducing CO2 emissions from our production sites.
  • As a member of the international society, we will also move forward with initiatives for “respecting the human rights” of all stakeholders.
  • We will also make efforts to focus on “employee engagement” and to promote “diversity,” so as to prepare a work environment where a wide variety of personnel can work with motivation and satisfaction, and where employees can sustain a healthy lifestyle.
  • We will work together with all the parties associated with our businesses to strengthen “supply chain management” so that we can detect and avoid risks.

We have set KPIs and challenging targets to help us realize these priority issues.
